2024 USA MUSICAL THEATRE, BROADWAY AND DISNEY International Competition: Second Prize

“I’ve been singing in choirs all my life. I have always loved this, but felt my voice was too “pretty” for mainstream, and it was frustrating me. 2 or 3 people from choir suggested I try their singing teacher and after 6 months on a wait list, and the young age of 46 (wink), I finally got in…yay!

That was about 1 ½ years ago now and I haven’t looked back. Weike has challenged me in so many ways, teaching me not only to sing, but to use feeling and make each song a performance…more like performance coach than singing teacher. Weike is very professional. She gives 100% to her students, and expects the same, matching our commitment and taking us to the next level with persistence and patience. 

Since having lessons with Weike, I have grown so much and know I am getting the most from every lesson – going from soprano with 2 octave range, to over 3 octaves with improved lower range strength. With Weike’s coaching, I have seen improvements in the duo I am in (performing mainly covers); had the confidence to perform a solo in a play; and rocked a musical audition…yes I got in! I truly feel that Weike is helping me to re-learn how to sing – I had no idea how much I still have to learn!
